Avec une face Dancefloor , Nicolson mix l'incontournable Chreyl lynn ("Got to Be Real), Zapp ("More Bounce To The Ounce), Carl Carlton (She's bad mama Jama") ou encore Lowrell avec "Overdose".
RADIKAL Magazine Article July 2001:
After "Au Center du Freestyle Vol3", this young DJ from the Original Bombattak crew and the Best Sellers structure decided to bring together "the greatest seventies titles". With a Dancefloor side, Nicolson mixes the inevitable Chreyl Lynn ("Got to Be Real), Zapp (" More Bounce To The Ounce), Carl Carlton (She's bad mama Jama ") or even Lowrell with" Overdose ".
Side B, quieter, brings together the excellent "I Got The Blues" by Labbi Siffre, but also tracks by Groover Washington Jr, Fat Back Band, Kool & The Gang, Bob James ...
In short, "Black Oldies" oscillates between classics, instrumental titles and ... technical phases, since Nicolson does not hesitate to introduce some interludes and scratched introductions, which in no way alter the original quality of the songs. A success.
Favorite Track: Whichever one is currently playing. This album kills, and you owe it to yourself to listen with no distractions and headphones on.
The mixing and mastering of the album feels worth shouting out — every instrument can be heard distinctly yet never overtakes a track. The bass and beats are deep and resonate, pulling you down into the warmth of this album, while the horns and winds lift you into their lilting and bold exultations. Could Not Be Worse
